Owlcrate Unboxing \\ Hidden Worlds

February Theme: Hidden Worlds

The February box was all about magical – and sometimes dangerous – worlds. It’s a good box for those who like stories like Alice in Wonderland and Coraline. I loved the January box, but I didn’t know what to expect from this one?

I just kind of forgot about it until it showed up in the mail. And it 100% exceeded ANY expectations I had.

Items and book included:

Owlcrate Unboxing \\ Fearsome Fairy Tales

January Theme: Fearsome Fairy Tales

The January box is themed around Grimms fairy tales and dark faeries!

I was so excited for this box! I had guessed the book beforehand, and it was one that I had been anticipating for months! Plus, as you probably already know, I love Grimms fairy tales, and just fairy tales\old stories in general. So naturally I couldn’t wait for my box to get here!

So let’s open it! I’m so excited I feel the need to use more exclamation marks than grammatically necessary!!

Owlcrate Unboxing | September 2017

August Theme: Mythical Creatures

The September Owlcrate box was themed around all things mythical – mythical creatures especially!

Unfortunately, this was the first month that Owlcrate boxes sold out completely, so there isn’t any more left. They do have other past boxes available, if you’re interested! Check here – most of them are on sale!

What was inside the box:

Owlcrate Unboxing | June 2017

June Theme: Make It Out Alive

June’s Owlcrate box is centered around survival! Some classic dystopians will be featured, including Divergent, The Giver, and more!

As per usual, the first thing out of the box is the card with spoilers (I don’t look at it until after I unbox everything!) and the collectible pin.

This item is an exclusive bath bomb. It’s themed around Divergent: when you use it, a charm will come out and sort you into a faction!

Full disclosure, I haven’t read Divergent yet…and I don’t plan to?

Made by Fizzy Fairy Apothecary

This is a patch that you can iron onto a jean jacket. It’s inspired by The Giver by Lois Lowry. Have any of you read it? I really enjoyed it, personally!

Made by Laserbrain Patch Co.

I’m not a huge fan of sleep masks, but my brother is, so I’ll probably end up giving it to him – he loves the zombie designs as well!

Made by Archie McPhee

I’m going to bet the majority of you know this quote! It’s from ACOWAR by Sarah J. Maas! The quote is: “You do not fear…you do not falter. You do not yield.”

Made by Hey Atlas Creative

This has to be my favorite item included! This is a giant magnet, with a quote from Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes.

The quote is: “Fear is only your enemy if you allow it to be.”

I have not read the book, but I love that it’s a magnet! Have you read it? If so, what did you think? I would love to know if I should put it on my TBR or not.

Made by Little Inklings Designs

This is not the book of the month! I did want to read this one though – it’s a dystopian called New World Rising. It’s published by a newer company, and I believe the third book in this series comes out this year, if it is not out already.

Once again, the book for this month came with an exclusive cover! I believe most of the Owlcrate books now will as well. TBH – just another reason to subscribe!

The book for this month is…

The Sandcastle Empire

When all hope is gone, how do you survive?

Before the war, Eden’s life was easy—air conditioning, ice cream, long days at the beach. Then the revolution happened, and everything changed.

Now a powerful group called the Wolfpack controls the earth and its resources. Eden has lost everything to them. They killed her family and her friends, destroyed her home, and imprisoned her. But Eden refuses to die by their hands. She knows the coordinates to the only neutral ground left in the world, a place called Sanctuary Island, and she is desperate to escape to its shores.

Eden finally reaches the island and meets others resistant to the Wolves—but the solace is short-lived when one of Eden’s new friends goes missing. Braving the jungle in search of their lost ally, they quickly discover Sanctuary is filled with lethal traps and an enemy they never expected.

This island might be deadlier than the world Eden left behind, but surviving it is the only thing that stands between her and freedom.

I haven’t read a dystopian in a while, and I’m actually excited to read this one! It sounds tropey, but it also sounds like it has the potential to be unique. I’m definitely willing to give it a try!

Next month the theme is…

The July box is themed around Wanderlust! If you enjoy travelling, this is your box!

Sneak peak: it will include an (officially licensed) item from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!

As per always, the first thing out of the box is the card with spoilers on the back. (I don’t look at this card until later).

The collectible pin followed afterward, and I really liked the comic theme!

The first item out of the box was this Batman Funko Pop – Owlcrate sent out seven different Funko pops. Six superheroes, and one Anime character!

The Funkos were: Batman, Deadpool, Harley Quinn, Loki, Wonderwoman, Captain America and Sailor Moon.

Coffee-flavored candy was the next thing out of the box! I’ve never really liked coffee candy, but I do like this one.

It wasn’t super sweet, but it did taste like coffee, which was nice. Plus I’ve never gotten chocolate in an Owlcrate box before!

Along with the collectible pin, this little clip also came, and it stuck with the superhero\comic theme. I honestly have no idea where I’ll use it, but it’s really cool!

I’m so excited about this pen!

If you haven’t seen pens similar to this one, basically it comes with a bunch of different colors, and you can switch them when taking notes. It’s my favorite kind of pen and I can’t wait to use it!

This Owlcrate exclusive is a candle themed around Wonder Woman! (Wonder Woman: Warbringer comes out June 2nd!)

I can’t name the scent specifically, but it’s based on Wonder Woman’s tropical home\island. I will say that it’s one of the best smelling candles I’ve ever gotten!

This is an exclusive chapter from a recent comic book release! I’m not one to read comics, but this looks super interesting!

This comic is called Afar and it’s by Leila Del Duca and Kit Seaton.

The book for this month came in an EXCLUSIVE cover (as will the books in the next six boxes) and a large art print (above) by the author.

The book for this month also won’t be released until the 30th of May, so that means that Owlcrate subscribers get to read it before everyone else!

The book for this month is…

Eliza and her Monsters

Francesca Zappia

Goodreads Page

In the real world, Eliza Mirk is shy, weird, smart, and friendless. Online, Eliza is LadyConstellation, the anonymous creator of a popular webcomic called Monstrous Sea. With millions of followers and fans throughout the world, Eliza’s persona is popular. Eliza can’t imagine enjoying the real world as much as she loves her digital community.

Then Wallace Warland transfers to her school, and Eliza begins to wonder if a life offline might be worthwhile. But when Eliza’s secret is accidentally shared with the world, everything she’s built—her story, her relationship with Wallace, and even her sanity—begins to fall apart.

I have never heard of this book before Owlcrate! It has artwork from the author scattered throughout the book, and from what I’ve read so far, it’s very enjoyable.

Next month the theme is…

The June book is an edge-of-your-seat story that is a blend of dystopian elements, sci-fi tech, and environmental collapse. If you like the TV show Lost, you’re going to love this book!

There are SIX items included, inspired by A Court of Wings and Ruin, An Ember in the Ashes, The Giver, Divergent, and MORE!

I’m super excited, because I love Dystopian, and I have absolutely no idea what the book could be.
